Job summary

Petco Animal Supplies, Inc. is seeking a Veterinary Assistant for its Vetco Total Care hospital. The role focuses on delivering excellent medical care to patients and outstanding customer service to owners.

You will set the tone for the technical and client-facing aspects of the practice and support a cohesive, motivated team. Key duties include assisting veterinarians, recording patient histories, and ensuring safety and comfort during procedures.

Qualifications

• Must have at least 1 year of experience in veterinary practice or related animal care.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Compassionate, professional demeanor, and ability to handle emotional situations.
• Strong teamwork and willingness to learn new techniques.

Responsibilities

• Greet clients and patients arriving for appointments and escort them into an exam room, obtain weight and vital signs and record the electronic medical record.
• Assist doctors with appointments, surgery, dentistry, and euthanasia under supervision.
• Perform patient restraint, obtain and process laboratory samples, handle and dispense medications as directed.
• Schedule appointments, provide client education, relay test results, and maintain client/patient records.
• Help prepare patients for surgical/dental procedures and assist during anesthesia and recovery.
• In-hospital treatments for sick patients including medications and IV fluids; maintain clean, fed, and hydrated patients.
