Job summary

Paws & Claws Animal Hospital in Wilmington, NC, is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to join a compassionate team caring for cats, dogs and exotic animals. You’ll assist with restraint, triage, lab work, radiography and anesthesia monitoring, delivering friendly client communication and high-quality care.

Full-time role with pay $15–$19 per hour, benefits including paid time off, education allowances, and a supportive training program.

Qualifications

• An experienced Veterinary Assistant with a minimum of 1-year experience required.
• Compassionate, Calm, Team Player, Multi-Tasker and Strong Communicator
• Must be able to properly restrain pets.
• Proficient in sample collection, obtaining medical histories, processing laboratory tests and radiographs, and anesthesia monitoring are a bonus!
• Self-starter with the desire to continue to advance your knowledge and skillset.

Responsibilities

• Restrain pets as needed and triage incoming patients.
• Collect and analyze lab samples, perform diagnostic imaging.
• Manage medical and hospitalized cases, administer medications, assist with surgery and anesthesia.

The veterinarians at Paws & Claws Animal Hospital, Dr. Sam Smith, Dr. Stephen Anderson, Dr. Kelsey Weingartner, and Dr. Katie Alewel all have a combined total of more than four decades of veterinary medical experience, and they have all the knowledge and expertise necessary to give your precious pets the quality medical care they need and deserve! Pet restraint, triage incoming patients, collection and analysis of lab samples, diagnostic imaging, management and nursing care of medical and hospitalized cases with varying degrees of stability, administration of medications, effective communication of treatment plans with clients, surgical preparation and assistance, and anesthetic management.

Must be able to withstand unpleasant odors and noises. May be exposed to bites, scratches, animal waste and potentially contagious diseases.
