SUMMARY OF JOB PURPOSE AND FUNCTION

The Veterinary Assistant supports veterinarians and veterinary technicians in providing quality veterinary care for pets, advocating for pets, educating clients on pet health, and maintaining a safe hospital environment.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS

1. Live and exemplify the Five Principles of Mars, Inc. within self and team.
2. Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians by acting as extra eyes, ears, and hands to ensure high-quality pet care and maximize productivity.
3. Communicate effectively with the team to maintain smooth patient flow.
4. Provide professional, efficient, and exceptional service, including performing procedures that do not require veterinarian assistance, preparing for other procedures, and monitoring hospitalized or surgical pets as permitted by state laws.
5. Educate clients about wellness plans, preventive care, pet health needs, and hospital services.
6. Obtain relevant client information and maintain accurate medical records.
7. Ensure safety by using proper restraining techniques, following protocols, and keeping treatment areas clean and organized.
8. Assist with surgical procedures as applicable.
9. Utilize technical skills in accordance with state practice acts and NAVTA guidelines.
10. Mentor other paraprofessionals in the hospital.
11. Perform other duties as assigned.
