Job summary

Ethos Veterinary Health in Byron Center, MI is seeking a Veterinary Assistant, Emergency, to join our 24/7 hospital. We offer part-time and full-time schedules, including three 12‑hour overnight shifts per week, with rotating weekends and holidays to fit your life.

You will assist veterinarians, monitor anesthesia, manage labs and client communication, and contribute to our gold‑standard care. Our team values respect, collaboration, and ongoing learning while you grow with Ethos.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a Veterinary Assistant in a fast-paced clinical setting.
  • Ability to stay calm, organized and adaptable under pressure.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for client interactions.
  • Collaborative, team-first mindset with respectful, drama-free work style.
  • Genuine love for animals and commitment to high-quality care.
  • Fluent English (spoken and written) required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist veterinarians during exams, treatments and procedures.
  • Perform technical tasks: IVC placement, meds, radiology, anesthesia monitoring, patient monitoring.
  • Monitor anesthesia with ECG, SpO2, EtCO2, NIBP.
  • Provide pre- and post-surgical care and assist with surgery prep/recovery.
  • Handle and process lab samples for local/offsite labs.
  • Obtain and relay detailed patient histories accurately.
  • Document records and diagnostics in EzyVet/SmartFlow.
  • Communicate treatment plans, estimates and discharge instructions to clients.

Veterinary Assistant, Emergency

Location: Byron Center, MI

Schedule: Part Time & Full Time Available | FT Hours Are 3 Twelve Hour Shifts Per Week -Overnight Availability Required | Rotating Weekends & Holidays | Shift Bids Every 6 Months

Compensation: $17-25/hr Dependent On Experience | $3/Hour Shift Differential (Hours Between 11pm & 7am)

In Your Day-To-Day, You Will
  • Assist veterinarians during exams, treatments and procedures.
  • Perform technical tasks; IVC placement, medication administration, radiology, anesthesia monitoring, patient monitoring, etc.
  • Monitor anesthesia using ECG, SpO2, EtCO2, and NIBP.
  • Provide pre- and post-surgical care and assist with surgical prep and recovery for patients.
  • Handle and process laboratory samples for submission to local and offsite labs.
  • Accurately obtain and relay detailed patient histories.
  • Document records, treatment and diagnostics into systems (EzyVet and SmartFlow).
  • Communicate effectively with clients on treatment plans, estimates, and discharge instructions including callbacks and updates.
  • Educate and communicate with clients regarding their pet's condition, treatment plans, review of estimates, and follow-up care.
  • Support hospital cleanliness, safety protocols and inventory management.
  • Additional duties as requested by hospital leadership.
