Job summary

HMR Veterans Services in Houston, TX is seeking a dedicated Cook to prepare meals that meet veterans' needs, including special events, while upholding quality, service, and safety.

You will follow recipes, maintain sanitation, stock kitchens, and coordinate with nursing and dietary staff to ensure meals meet prescribed requirements.

A high school diploma or GED is required; healthcare cooking experience is preferred, and a Food Handlers Certificate is encouraged.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Knowledge of food preparation, sanitation, and hygiene practices.
• One year healthcare cooking experience preferred; other relevant experience or cook training accepted.
• Able to follow recipes, understand instructions in English, perform basic math, and obtain a Food Handlers Certificate.

Responsibilities

• Prepare all food items on menu according to pre-determined recipes.
• Follow safety and sanitation policies and procedures. This includes cleaning assignments as scheduled for cleaning and maintaining kitchen equipment.
• Follow all sanitation policies and procedures for food storage preparation and transport.
• Preparation of resident meals and checking all items to ensure meal items meet prescribed individual resident needs as directed by nursing, dietician, and or physician.
• Unload and stock all sizes and weights of food items and supplies on shelves and in the freezers and refrigerators.
• Must maintain regular attendance according to the Company’s attendance policies.
• Use tactful and appropriate communication with staff, guests, and residents.
• Adhere to uniform policy according to the Company’s policies and Employee Handbook.
• Maintain confidentiality of all pertinent resident care information to ensure resident rights are protected.
• Maintains a liaison with other department supervisors to adequately plan for dietary services/activities.
• Attend departmental and staff meetings as directed.
• Attend and participate in educational classes and on-the-job training programs, etc., as scheduled, or directed.
• Performs other related assignments as required.
