Job summary

Ussery-Roan Texas State Veterans Home in Amarillo, TX seeks a Cook to prepare meals meeting resident and veteran needs, including special events, while upholding quality, service, and safety standards.

Responsibilities include following recipes, sanitation policies, stocking, and coordinating with nursing/dietician staff. Requirements: high school diploma or GED, knowledge of food prep and hygiene, and ability to follow English instructions; a Food Handlers Certificate is desired.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Knowledge of food preparation, sanitation, and hygiene practices.
• One year of healthcare cooking experience preferred; other relevant experience or cook training accepted.
• Able to follow recipes, understand instructions in English, perform basic math, and obtain a Food Handlers Certificate.

Responsibilities

• Prepare all food items on menu according to pre-determined recipes.
• Follow safety and sanitation policies and procedures, and maintain kitchen equipment.
• Follow all sanitation policies and procedures for food storage, preparation and transport.
• Prepare resident meals and ensure items meet prescribed needs as directed by nursing, dietician, or physician.
• Unload and stock food items and supplies on shelves, freezers, and refrigerators.
• Maintain regular attendance according to company policies.
• Use tactful and appropriate communication with staff, guests, and residents.
• Adhere to uniform policy and maintain confidentiality of resident care information.
• Plan with other departments to coordinate dietary services/activities.
• Attend departmental and staff meetings and participate in training.

What You'll Do

As a Cook, you will prepare meals that meet individual resident and veteran needs, including special events, while ensuring food quality, service, and departmental safety and sanitation.Responsibilities include:

• Prepare all food items on menu according to pre-determined recipes.
• Follow safety and sanitation policies and procedures. This includes cleaning assignments as scheduled for cleaning and maintaining kitchen equipment.
• Follow all sanitation policies and procedures for food storage preparation and transport.
• Preparation of resident meals and checking all items to ensure meal items meet prescribed individual resident needs as directed by nursing, dietician, and or physician.
• Unload and stock all sizes and weights of food items and supplies on shelves and in the freezers and refrigerators.
• Must maintain regular attendance according to the Company’s attendance policies.
• Use tactful and appropriate communication with staff, guests, and residents.
• Adhere to uniform policy according to the Company’s policies and Employee Handbook.
• Maintain confidentiality of all pertinent resident care information to ensure resident rights are protected.
• Maintains a liaison with other department supervisors to adequately plan for dietary services/activities.
• Attend departmental and staff meetings as directed.
• Attend and participate in educational classes and on-the-job training programs, etc., as scheduled, or directed.
• Performs other related assignments as required.
