Job summary

Mental Health America of Los Angeles (MHALA) is seeking a Veteran Housing And Benefits Specialist to provide housing placement, support and case management for eligible homeless veteran families under the housing-first model. You will work with outreach, assessment, and engagement to access community resources and ensure successful transitions to stable housing.

The role requires strong crisis intervention, motivation interviewing and collaboration with landlords, HUD-VASH and LAHSA partners.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED plus two years providing psychiatric rehabilitation to a disabled/low-income homeless population preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or related field preferred.
• Driving with a valid Class C license and a vehicle for transportation; automobile insurance and agency liability coverage are conditions of employment.
• Crisis intervention and conflict resolution skills including motivational interviewing, harm reduction, and trauma-informed care.

Responsibilities

• Provide housing placement, support and case management for eligible homeless veteran families.
• Assist and coach members in completing the application process for housing resources.
• Maintain regular home visits and community referrals to help members stay housed.
• Represent MHALA at housing program meetings and coordinate with landlords and service providers.
• Collaborate to establish working budgets for sustainability of housing and income sources.
