Job summary

Mental Health America of Los Angeles (MHALA) is seeking a Veteran Housing and Benefits Specialist to provide housing placement, support and case management for eligible homeless veteran families through outreach, assessment and engagement. Under supervision, you will coordinate with landlords, HUD-VASH, LAHSA and community partners, document services, and help members access subsidies and resources.

A high school diploma is required, with bachelor's preferred; driving is required.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED plus two years of providing psychiatric rehabilitation services
• Bachelor's degree in Social Work or related field preferred
• Driving with current class C driver's license, a vehicle for transportation, proof of valid automobile insurance
• Knowledge of health care, social service resource systems and self-help intervention strategies
• Crisis intervention and conflict resolution skills including motivational interviewing, harm reduction and trauma-informed care
• Strong written and oral communication, teamwork and organizational skills

Responsibilities

• Provide housing placement, support and case management for eligible homeless veteran families
• Assist veterans in finding and accessing community resources and subsidies
• Coordinate with landlords, HUD-VASH and LAHSA meetings and partner agencies
• Document services and ensure HMIS data collection and timely reporting
• Conduct home visits and arrange for necessary services for housing stability
• Advocate for members to obtain housing and benefits
