Job summary

The Veterans Canteen Service (VCS) Optical Shops at the Colorado Springs VA Medical Center seek an experienced Health Tech (Optician) to coordinate optical operations and serve as a liaison between eye clinic providers and prosthetics teams.

Responsibilities include eyewear fittings, CPRS documentation, order processing, and helping patients choose eyewear with a consultative approach. Real ID required.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of optician experience.
• Ability to interpret prescriptions and resolve discrepancies.
• Proficient with optical equipment and measurements.
• Current REAL ID is required to work with the Veterans Canteen Service.

Responsibilities

• Greet customers and assist with frame selection, pricing, options, and delivery timelines.
• Maintain a professional, welcoming environment and support patients in choosing eyewear.
• Perform eyewear fittings and obtain accurate measurements using optical equipment.
• Document patient information and measurements within CPRS.
• Process eyewear orders, collect payments, and enter orders into VA systems.
• Promote lens options and upgrades using a consultative approach.
• Collaborate with eye clinics, labs, prosthetics staff and vendors to track orders and resolve issues.
• Address concerns professionally and escalate complex cases as needed.
• Maintain eyewear displays and assist with inventory control and merchandise protection.
