South Piedmont Community College is seeking a detail-oriented staff member to assist the School Certifying Official in the Office of Financial Aid and Veterans Services at the OCH campus. This position assists the School Certifying Official ( SCO ) within the Office of Financial Aid and Veterans Services at the OCH campus.
Provides courteous front-line assistance to student veterans, service members, eligible dependents, and families in person, by phone, email, or approved virtual channels. Helps military affiliated community members locate institutional VA forms and published resources to prepare for enrollment, explains routine office procedures and submission deadlines using approved guidance, confirms receipt of documents when authorized, assists with appointments, and sends SCO -approved reminders or status communications.
Assists the SCO with routine administrative work associated with VA education benefits: intake of required benefit-related documents; scanning, indexing, and filing records; maintaining approved certification and enrollment-change tracking logs; preparing student files and checklists for SCO review; identifying missing, inconsistent, or time-sensitive information.
Supports the SCO’s monitoring and documentation of changes that may affect VA education benefits using assigned reports, lists, or notifications, the student may help identify withdrawals, schedule changes, changes in credit hours, nonattendance information, program changes, or other items requiring SCO review.
Provides limited support to other Financial Aid Office activities when VA-related assignments are current, and the work is appropriate to the student’s training. May assist with front-desk coverage, outreach-event logistics, returned-mail projects, document imaging, student-facing resource lists, and other routine administrative tasks. Participates in relevant training and staff meetings, follows written procedures, and shares observations about recurring questions or workflow barriers with the SCO .
Good communication skills.
Ability to use basic computer applications like Microsoft Word and Excel.
Ability to manage sensitive information, often involving FERPA regulations and VA benefits.
Personal experience with military affiliated family members and VA education benefits is not required but is a plus. A student with an interest in higher education administration, social work, counseling, human services, social sciences, or related field also a plus.
