Overview
The Veteran Service Assistant reports directly to the Veteran Service Coordinator or Lead Veteran Service Assistant at the designated U.S.VETS site. The Veteran Service Assistant assists in the daily implementation of day‑to‑day basic residential services.
Responsibilities
- Assists in the delivery of basic services (shelter, food, hygiene, etc.) to veterans served at the facility.
- Ensures a harmonious atmosphere by maintaining communication with clinical staff and a therapeutic community environment.
- Assists in the delivery/handling of client mail.
- Assists clients with move‑in and move‑out from the facility.
- Prevents or de‑escalates verbal and physical altercations, submitting Incident Reports as needed.
- Addresses client issues timely to avoid service interruptions.
- Conveys needs to the coordinator to maintain supply inventory and proper storage.
- Assists with facility maintenance and readiness for inspections.
- Assists in toxicology testing to promote a sober environment.
- Implements safety and emergency procedures.
- Assists with bed checks and room inspections for safety and cleanliness.
- Documents bed checks, inspections, incident reports, client logs, etc.
- Facilitates routine daily living activities for clients.
- Adheres to site work order procedures.
- Assists with weekly cleaning of client rooms and common‑use areas.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience working with people (customer service, hospitality, caregiving, etc.) preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to follow direction and work within a structured environment.
- Basic computer skills.
- Valid driver’s license preferred; must meet insurance requirements if driving company vehicles.
