Job summary

Brown & Root Industrial Services in Houston, TX, is seeking a Structural Fitter to lay out, position, and fit structural steel and pressure vessel components in accordance with engineering drawings and specifications. The role supports fabrication of tanks, pressure vessels, and other heavy equipment, requiring precise layout, inspection, and alignment using measuring tools and rigging techniques.

Applicants should have 2–3 years in heavy steel fabrication, familiarity with ASME Section VIII,

Qualifications

• Read and interpret detailed fabrication drawings and welding symbols.
• Two to three years of experience in heavy steel fabrication or vessel fitting.
• Knowledge of ASME Section VIII and pressure vessel standards.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret engineering drawings, fabrication blueprints, and vessel schematics.
• Lay out and mark reference points for plates, shells, heads, nozzles, manways, and other attachments.
• Fit and align large vessel components using lifting and positioning tools.
• Prepare surfaces for welding, including grinding, beveling, and cleaning metal components.
• Ensure dimensions and tolerances align with ASME/API/client specs.
• Work with welders to ensure proper fit-up before welding.
• Perform visual inspections to confirm alignment, squareness, and fit quality.
• Operate hand and power tools safely (grinders, torches, drills, plasma cutters).
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment per safety policies.
