Job summary

The Boston Public Schools Central Office – Food & Nutrition Services is seeking a Standby Cafeteria Manager who is dependable, flexible, and a strong leader. You will deploy to schools across the district to cover vacant or absent cafeteria manager positions and oversee meal service while upholding food safety and sanitation standards.

Responsibilities include supervising staff, training for food preparation and sanitation, ordering supplies, and maintaining accurate records.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• ServSafe food safety certification for managers required.
• Passing grade on Manager’s Proficiency Exam (administered by FNS).
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suite (Excel, Sheets, Word, Docs, PowerPoint).
• Current authorization to work in the United States.
• Massachusetts driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
• Ability to travel to required locations in a timely manner.
• Pass a CORI/SORI criminal background check.

Responsibilities

• Provide supervision to cafeteria staff, maintaining uniform standards and practices.
• Train staff in food preparation, quality control, and sanitation as needed.
• Supervise and participate in food preparation and service to uphold high standards of flavor and appearance.
• Order food and supplies according to menu and volume requirements.
• Verify deliveries and safeguard storage of food and supplies.
• Establish daily and weekly work schedules for personnel, delegating assignments.
• Instruct personnel on proper use and care of equipment.
• Ensure student and personnel health and safety by following Massachusetts Sanitary Code.
• Record cash receipts, prepare bank deposits, and produce monthly income reports.
• Follow all policies of the School Committee, FNS Department, and Field Coordinator regarding safety, sanitation, personnel standards, and work techniques.
