Job summary

Corpus Christi Independent School District is seeking a vehicle technician helper for the Office of Transportation. You will work under the Shop Foreman to ensure reliable, safe vehicles for the district and other agencies, performing helper duties and assisting senior technicians.

The role requires a High School Diploma or GED, one year of vehicle maintenance experience, and the ability to read technical information, use a computer for assignments, and pass a DOT drug/alcohol screen.

Experience Required:

  • One year of documented successful experience in vehicle maintenance

Certification Required:

  • Class A or B CDL with Passenger Endorsement and School Bus Endorsement to be secured within 3 months of hire date. Possess and maintain Texas School Bus Driver certification as mandated by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS)

Personal Required:

  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally
  • Ability to follow prescribed procedures and policies
  • Ability to operate a computer system for job assignment and posting work accomplished
  • Ability to pay attention to detail and strive for perfection
  • Ability to drive a large variety of light to heavy vehicles and equipment
  • Must be able to read and interpret technical information and apply as required
  • Reports directly to the Shop Foreman

The vehicle technician helper for the Office of Transportation, works under the direct supervision of the appropriate shift supervisor, and shall perform all helper duties necessary to assure reliable and safe vehicles for the Office of Transportation and other agencies within

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain required equipment, tools and other related items and ensure accountability, serviceable and operational
  • Ability to trouble shoot a wide variety of mechanical problems associated with a wide variety of vehicles and engines
  • Ability to replace light systems in a wide variety of vehicles in a timely manner with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to maintain a clean, safe working area and practice safe operating procedures
  • Advises the Senior Vehicle Technician, Shop Foreman, on all matters pertaining to vehicle maintenance or safety hazards
  • Must possess knowledge, skills and abilities to assist other vehicle technicians in a variety of vehicle repairs.
  • Ability to acquire and maintain required certifications and CDL credentials.
  • Ability to perform preventable maintenance functions and recognize and take appropriate corrective actions.
  • Operate independently and take corrective actions concerning vehicle pre-checks and post-checks.
  • Assist others in maintaining a safe work environment by daily policing of shop facilities.
  • Must pass all random drug and alcohol testing.
  • Ability to drive school bus routes as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Vehicle Technician, Shop Foreman, Administrative Officer or Director for Transportation

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Not Applicable

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Challenging situations; limited in-District travel; lifting, fluctuating temperatures
