Jobtailor is seeking a Field Vegetation Management Inspector in Grass Valley, CA. The role focuses on hazard-tree patrols, inspection and evaluation along utility lines, and coordinating clearance crews to support PG&E projects.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Must reside within 50 miles of Grass Valley, CA.
  • Ability to identify local trees and knowledge of growth rates.
  • Ability to learn and use company- or job-specific software systems.
  • Ability to work in rugged terrain and inclement weather.
  • Ability to read and follow maps.
  • Proficient in electronic devices and documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Patrol for hazard trees and perform identification, inspection, and evaluation of trees and brush along utility lines.
  • Submit inspection results to clients with recommendations.
  • Plan, direct, and coordinate assigned tree clearance crews.
  • Discuss and negotiate line-clearance crew access issues.
  • Serve as liaison between clients, tree crews, and client customers.
  • Perform circuit patrols according to annual VM plans, patrol standards, and processes.
  • Identify and prescribe tree work along PG&E rights-of-way and document inspections.
  • Notify property owners/agencies and obtain authorizations for tree work.
  • Perform work verification inspections and investigate/document tree-related outages.
  • Track, field-check, prescribe work, and notify customers for assigned VM tags and cases.
  • Support emergency response, dispatch tree crews, and field-check sites.
  • Support oversight of vegetation projects, including tree assessment and trimming.
  • Participate in contractor safety and tailboard meetings.
  • Act as a customer relations representative on behalf of PG&E.
  • Coordinate among contractors, communities, agencies, first responders, and PG&E stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with permits, traffic control plans, railroad and Caltrans requirements, and environmental measures.
  • Complete electronic and paper-based documentation and reporting using hand-held or iOS-compatible devices.
  • Maintain contact with PG&E personnel, public agencies, and customers.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Required to maintain a Class C driver’s license
  • One (1) year experience as a VMI or equivalent on utility contract
  • Must reside within 50 miles of Grass Valley, CA
  • Ability to identify local trees and knowledge of growth rates
  • Ability to learn and use company- or job-specific software systems
  • Ability to work in rugged terrain and inclement weather
  • Ability to read and follow maps
  • Proficient in electronic devices and documentation
  • Must perform work in a safety-sensitive role
  • TRAQ and ISA Certification Preferred
  • ISA Certified Arborist preferred
  • 2-year or 4-year college degree in a related field preferred
