Job summary

Wohlsen Construction Company seeks a VDC Director to lead our Virtual Design & Construction function, shaping strategy and growth across multiple regions and projects. You will manage the VDC team, set standards, and drive model-based delivery across design, preconstruction, and operations.

You will partner with Business Development, Preconstruction, and Field Operations to reduce risk, improve coordination, and provide executive-level reporting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline.
• 12 to 15 years of progressive experience in VDC/BIM, with leadership or management experience.
• Proficiency with BIM authoring and coordination tools (e.g., Revit, Navisworks or equivalent) and model-based estimating, visualization, and reality-capture workflows.
• Demonstrated experience building or scaling a VDC/BIM function, including team development and process standardization.
• Strong track record partnering with Business Development, Preconstruction, and Operations leadership.
• Excellent executive presence and communication skills, with experience presenting to clients and senior leadership.
• Knowledge of modern project delivery methods (Design/Build, IPD) and emerging VDC technologies (4D, reality capture, digital twin concepts).

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow the VDC team across regions.
• Own the VDC strategic roadmap and related software selection.
• Establish standardized VDC deliverables, minimum service levels, and engagement processes by project phase.
• Drive proactive VDC involvement earlier in preconstruction and estimating.
• Set direction on technology investments including 4D animation and modeling capabilities.
• Serve as the lead for VDC in client pursuits and leadership reporting.
• Partner with Business Development to position VDC as a differentiator.
• Embed VDC into estimating, constructability, and field execution workflows.
• Implement standards and workflows to sustain model use through construction and closeout.
• Develop/vendor partnerships (Autodesk, reality-capture partners).
• Provide training to Wohlsen team members on VDC capabilities.
• Establish metrics to track VDC impact and value.
