Job description

Donnellon McCarthy Enterprises (DME) is a locally owned business technology company that has been helping organizations work smarter since 1957. What began in office equipment has grown into a full-service technology organization supporting businesses throughout Ohio and surrounding markets.

Today, DME helps organizations manage and protect their technology through solutions including Managed IT Services, Cybersecurity, Managed Print, Software Solutions, Physical Security, Technology Infrastructure, Cloud Services, Business Communications, and EV Charging.

Our approach is simple: bring together the technology businesses need with the local people and support they can count on. Instead of working with multiple vendors, our customers can turn to one trusted technology partner to help them evaluate their needs, implement the right solutions, and support their business as it grows.

As DME continues to expand its Managed Services business, we're looking for technology professionals who want to grow with us and take their careers beyond the traditional engineering or support path.

Who We’re Looking For

DME is looking for a vCIO (Virtual Chief Information Officer) to join our Managed Services team. This is a great opportunity for someone with a strong technology foundation who enjoys working with people and is ready to take the next step beyond a traditional engineering or support role.

The ideal candidate has 2–5 years of experience in IT, systems engineering, networking, cloud, cybersecurity, or a similar technical role and can explain technology in a way that makes sense to business leaders.

You don't need to be the person installing and configuring every solution. Instead, you'll use your technical knowledge to understand a customer's environment, identify opportunities, recommend solutions, help develop and price those solutions, and serve as a trusted technology advisor.

This is a client-facing role with a sales and business-development component, so we're looking for someone who is technically credible, personable, confident, curious, and comfortable building relationships.

What You'll Do
  • Meet with current customers and new prospects to understand their business, technology environment, challenges, and goals.
  • Assess technology needs and identify opportunities involving Managed IT, cybersecurity, Microsoft 365, cloud services, backup and disaster recovery, networking, infrastructure, communications, and other business technology solutions.
  • Translate technical concepts into clear business recommendations for owners, executives, and other nontechnical decision-makers.
  • Develop technology roadmaps and recommendations based on customer needs.
  • Work with internal technical resources to design appropriate solutions.
  • Help scope, price, and present technology solutions and proposals.
  • Identify new business opportunities within both existing DME customers and prospective customers.
  • Build relationships with key decision-makers and serve as a trusted technology resource.
  • Participate in customer meetings, presentations, technology reviews, and strategic planning discussions.
  • Remain involved after the sale to ensure a smooth transition from the proposed solution to implementation.
  • Coordinate with Project Engineers and internal teams to make sure the customer's expectations and project scope are clearly communicated.
  • Maintain ongoing customer relationships and identify future technology needs and opportunities.
  • Travel locally throughout the Greater Cincinnati area for customer and prospect meetings.
What We're Looking For
  • 2+ years of professional experience in IT, systems/network engineering, technical support, managed services, cybersecurity, cloud, or a related technology field.
  • Working knowledge of areas such as Microsoft 365, networking, cloud technologies, cybersecurity, servers/endpoints, backup and disaster recovery, or IT infrastructure.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to nontechnical audiences.
  • Comfortable meeting with customers and business decision-makers.
  • Professional, personable, and able to build relationships naturally.
  • Strong problem-solving and discovery skills—you ask good questions before recommending a solution.
  • Interest in developing sales, business development, solution design, and strategic consulting skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with sales, engineering, project management, and operations teams.
  • Organized and able to manage multiple customer opportunities and projects.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel locally to customer locations.
  • Associate degree or equivalent experience required; bachelor's degree and relevant technology certifications are a plus.
You May Be a Great Fit If...

You're currently a Systems Engineer, Network Engineer, Systems Administrator, IT Consultant, MSP Engineer, Solutions Engineer, Technical Account Manager, or similar technology professional and you've realized that one of your strengths is working with people.

Maybe you enjoy the customer meeting as much as solving the technical problem. You can talk technology with an engineer and then explain the same solution to a business owner without overwhelming them with technical jargon.

If you're ready to use your technical background in a more strategic, customer-facing and business-focused role, the vCIO position could be a natural next step.

What This Role Is Not

This is not a traditional help desk or hands-on installation position. Our technical teams are responsible for implementing and configuring solutions.

The vCIO is responsible for understanding the customer's needs, helping develop the right solution, communicating its business value, supporting the sales process, and staying involved to ensure what was proposed is successfully delivered.

Compensation

This position offers a base salary plus bonus and commission opportunities, providing additional earning potential as you develop customer relationships and grow the business.
