Job summary

Greenville Public Schools is seeking a Varsity Boys Golf Coach to organize and supervise all aspects of the varsity boys golf program, promoting sportsmanship, skill development, teamwork, leadership, and academic success.

Responsibilities include coaching, planning practices, developing strategies, teaching golf fundamentals, and maintaining equipment and program materials. A strong emphasis on communication, eligibility monitoring, and school values is required.

Qualifications

• Coaching or playing golf experience
• Knowledge of golf rules, techniques, and strategies
• Ability to motivate and mentor student athletes
• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
• Knowledge of MHSAA policies preferred
• Satisfactory background check

Responsibilities

• Organize, supervise, and coach the varsity boys golf team
• Plan and conduct practices that promote skill development, teamwork, conditioning, and sportsmanship
• Develop practice schedules, competition strategies, and lineups
• Teach proper golf fundamentals, rules, etiquette, and course management
• Promote a positive and respectful team culture reflecting the school district values
• Supervise student athletes during practices, matches, transportation, and events
• Maintain effective communication with athletes, parents, athletic administration, officials, and staff
• Monitor athlete academic eligibility and encourage academic success
• Coordinate scheduling needs, transportation, equipment inventory, and uniform distribution/collection
• Maintain and care for golf equipment and program materials
• Collaborate with JV coach to support program development
• Assist with offseason program development and athlete engagement
• Commit to regular and predictable attendance

Salary: $2,324 - $5,113 per season, based upon relevant prior experience

Duties and Responsibilities

• Organize, supervise, and coach the varsity boys golf team
• Plan and conduct practices that promote individual skill development, teamwork, conditioning, and sportsmanship
• Develop practice schedules, competition strategies, and lineups
• Teach proper golf fundamentals, rules, etiquette, and course management
• Promote a positive and respectful team culture that reflects the values of the school district and athletic department
• Supervise student athletes during practices, matches, transportation, and team events
• Maintain effective communication with athletes, parents, athletic administration, officials, and school personnel
• Monitor athlete academic eligibility and encourage academic success
• Coordinate scheduling needs, transportation requests, equipment inventory, and uniform distribution/collection
• Maintain and care for golf equipment and program materials
• Collaborate with JV coach to support program development and continuity
• Assist with offseason program development and athlete engagement
• Commitment to regular and predictable attendance

Qualification Requirements

• Previous coaching or playing experience in golf
• Strong knowledge of golf rules, techniques, and strategies
• Ability to motivate and mentor student athletes
• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
• Knowledge of MHSAA policies preferred
• Satisfactory background check

Education Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent

Physical Demands

The employee must be able to:

• Stand for extended periods during practices and games
• Sit for extended periods on buses for away games and tournaments
• Perform and demonstrate golf skills and movements such as swing techniques
• Move up and down the course, observe players, and actively engage with them
• Stamina to spend long hours outdoors on varying terrain and in various weather conditions
• Lift and move golf clubs, golf balls, training gear, and other equipment (typically up to 25-50 lbs)
• Project voice loudly and clearly in noisy environments
• Maintain composure under stress
