Greenville Public Schools is seeking a Varsity Boys Tennis Coach to lead and develop the boys varsity tennis program. You will instruct on skills, strategies, sportsmanship, teamwork, and conditioning while upholding district policies.

The role emphasizes motivation, leadership, and strong communication with athletes, families, and school staff, supporting students’ growth on and off the court.

Qualifications

• Experience coaching or playing tennis at school level.

Salary: $2,788 - $5,577 per season, based upon relevant prior experience

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Varsity Boys Tennis Coach will lead, develop, and manage the boys varsity tennis program, providing instruction in tennis skills, strategies, sportsmanship, teamwork, and physical conditioning.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Plan, organize, and conduct team practices, conditioning sessions, and competitions
• Teach and develop tennis fundamentals, techniques, strategies, rules, and match play
• Foster sportsmanship, teamwork, discipline, accountability, and respect among student athletes
• Promote the academic success, personal growth, and overall well-being of team members
• Communicate effectively with athletes, parents, school administrators, athletic department, and opposing coaches
• Maintain appropriate records, including attendance, eligibility, participation, and team performance
• Coordinate team schedules, transportation arrangements, equipment needs, and other program logistics
• Ensure compliance with district policies, athletic department procedures, and Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) rules and regulations
• Maintain and care for team equipment and facilities
• Attend required coaches’ meetings, trainings, and professional development activities
• Commitment to regular and predictable attendance

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

• Previous coaching or playing experience in tennis
• Strong knowledge of tennis rules, techniques, and strategies
• Ability to motivate and mentor student athletes
• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
• Knowledge of MHSAA policies preferred
• Satisfactory background check

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

• High school diploma or equivalent

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The employee must be able to:

• Stand for extended periods during practices and games
• Sit for extended periods on buses for away games and tournaments
• Perform and demonstrate tennis skills and movements such as strokes and footwork
• Move up and down the court, observe players, and actively engage with them
• React quickly in fast-paced game play and to ensure player safety
• Lift and move tennis balls, rackets, training gear, and other equipment (typically up to 25-50 lbs)
• Project voice loudly and clearly in noisy environments
• Maintain composure under stress
