Greenville Public Schools seeks a Junior Varsity Boys Tennis Coach to develop players’ skills and sportsmanship. You will implement fundamentals, run practices, and coordinate with the varsity coach to align goals.

Responsibilities include developing lineups, supervising during matches, and handling logistics, communications with families, and fundraising involvement. A high school diploma is required.

Title: Junior Varsity Boys Tennis Coach

Location: Greenville High School

Classification: Athletic Coach

Reports to: Director of Athletics

Schedule: Seasonal

Salary: $2,091 - $3,951 per season, based upon relevant prior experience

Benefits: This position does not meet the requirements for benefit eligibility

POSITION SUMMARY: The JV Boys Tennis Coach will foster player growth, sportsmanship, and teamwork while emphasizing fundamental skills and competitive play.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: other duties may be assigned

• Teach fundamental and advanced tennis skills, techniques, and strategies
• Conduct structured and engaging practices
• Foster a positive and inclusive team environment that promotes growth and sportsmanship
• Work closely with the varsity coach to align coaching philosophies and team goals
• Develop lineups and strategies for JV matches
• Supervise athletes during matches, practices, and team events
• Communicate effectively with parents, players, and school administration
• Organize team logistics, including transportation, equipment, and scheduling
• Assist in fundraising and community outreach
• Commitment to regular and predictable attendance
• Adherence to Greenville Public Schools core values: integrity, collaboration, compassion, and responsibility

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

• Previous coaching or playing experience in tennis
• Strong knowledge of tennis rules, techniques, and strategies
• Ability to motivate and mentor student athletes
• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
• Knowledge of MHSAA policies preferred
• Satisfactory background check

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

• High school diploma or equivalent

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The employee must be able to:

• Stand for extended periods during practices and games
• Sit for extended periods on buses for away games and tournaments
• Perform and demonstrate tennis skills and movements such as strokes and footwork
• Move up and down the court, observe players, and actively engage with them
• React quickly in fast-paced game play and to ensure player safety
• Lift and move tennis balls, rackets, training gear, and other equipment (typically up to 25-50 lbs)
• Project voice loudly and clearly in noisy environments
• Maintain composure under stress
