Job summary

Brightside Academy in Pittsburgh is seeking a Van Driver to support transportation for our early childhood program and ensure student safety on routes. The role may include assisting with classroom duties as needed.

The position emphasizes strong customer service, reliable commute, and adherence to safety standards, with potential for growth and dual responsibilities in education support.

Responsibilities

• Adheres to the designated route as assigned.
• Ensures the safety of all students.
• Arrives to each route location on time.
• Maintains the driver’s log entries.
• Performs pre- and post-vehicle inspections and reports issues.
• Keeps the bus clean and mechanically sound.
• Monitors vehicle maintenance and refuels as needed.
• Communicates with dispatch via two-way radio.
• Follows safety rules and reporting procedures.
• Escalates inappropriate student behavior as required.
• Obeys traffic laws and safety protocols.
• May assist students with boarding and exit.
• Attends safety trainings.

• Maintains the entry of driver’s log.
• Performs pre and post vehicle inspections; reports same.
• Responsible for a clean and mechanically sound bus at all times.
• Monitors vehicle maintenance; refuels as required or requested.
• Communicates with dispatch via two-way radio.
• Complies with all general safety rules.
• Follows internal reporting for safety hazards.
• Escalates inappropriate student behavior.
• Obeys all traffic laws.
• May assist students with on and off boarding.
• Attends all general safety trainings.

Education/Experience for Van Driver.

High school diploma or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying.To perform this job successfully, an individual must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to successfully pass required backgrounds checks including but not limited to:Child Abuse Clearance, State Criminal, FBI Clearance, and drug/alcohol testing. *Must be 21 or older.
