SUMMARY

Drives school van to safely transport students over specified routes according to a time schedule. Ensure the well‑being of the students/passengers and other drivers. Complies with all federal, state and local traffic regulations, as well as district policies and procedures to provide a safe positive environment for all students and staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Other duties may be assigned)

• Drives a school van safely and professionally, including during inclement weather.
• Performs and properly completes daily pre‑trip and/or post‑trip inspections.
• Complies with all traffic regulations and ordinances.
• Complies with District and Transportation Department policies and procedures.
• Participates in District mandated training.
• Communicates in an appropriate fashion with students, parents and staff.
• Prepares reports or memos, as required.
• Assists students on/off the school van, including students with developmental or physical needs.
• Maintains order on the school van.
• Cleans school vehicles interior and exterior.

REQUIREMENTS

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
• Must have a valid Pa. Class C Driver’s License.
• Must pass U.S.C. District Transportation Tests both written and driving skills.
• Must pass State Skill Test, State Written Test, Department of Transportation physical and Basic Training Program.
• Shows proficiency in handling and maneuvering a school van.
• Must have no points on driving record and be able to pass physical including drug test and submit to random drug testing.
• Experience driving school students is preferred.

• Able to work in a professional and respectful manner with co‑workers, parents, and students.
• Able to read and understand maps.
• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form.
• Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and policies.
