Job summary

The Blossoms is seeking a driver/transport assistant to operate a motor vehicle safely and efficiently, with extensive interaction with patients and residents of a nursing home facility. You will help ambulatory and non-ambulatory individuals enter and exit the vehicle, ensure proper seating, and secure walkers or wheelchairs.

You will also record trip details, mileage, and times, and perform basic preventive maintenance while reporting any service needs to supervision.

Qualifications

• Must have a valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
• Ability to lift, maneuver, and support up to 80 pounds.
• Basic knowledge of loading, securing, and unloading passengers.
• Ability to locate geographic locations and follow directions.
• Good record-keeping and ability to follow written/oral instructions.
• Six to 12 months of work experience operating a motor vehicle is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operate the assigned motor vehicle safely and efficiently.

• Ensure passengers are seated safely inside the motor vehicle.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• The safe and efficient operation of assigned motor vehicle
• Extensive contact with patients/ residents of a nursing home facility
• Assisting ambulatory and non-ambulatory individuals enter and leave the vehicle
• Ensuring that passengers are safely seated inside the motor vehicle
• Securing residents’ mobility devices such as walkers and wheelchairs
• Keeping a record of each bus trip and the residents who attended
• Documenting the mileage and time for each bus trip
• Performing preventive maintenance functions such as checking lights, maintaining fluid levels, checking tire pressure, etc. and notifying supervisory personnel of need for further service or repair

Requirements:

• Basic knowledge of methods and techniques used to load, secure, and unload passengers from a motor vehicle
• Skill in the operation and basic maintenance of assigned motor vehicle
• Ability to find geographic locations
• Ability to follow oral/ written instructions and keep a record of activities
• Ability to lift, maneuver, and support materials of up to 80 pounds
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with residents and staff
• Possession of a valid driver’s license
• Must be 21 years of age
• Must have a clean driving record

Experience:

• Six to 12 months of work experience operating, loading, and unloading a motor vehicle
• Any equivalent combination of acceptable training and experience which has provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities stated above
• Experience working with individuals with disabilities or experience working in long term care a plus
