Van Driver (anticipated)

Summary

Safely and efficiently transports students to and from school and other school-sponsored events following Ohio and national traffic safety laws; performs pre-trip inspections and reports any mechanical problems to appropriate authority.

Essential Functions
  1. Transports students to and from school and other school-sponsored events safely, on time, and efficiently.
  2. Follows Ohio and national traffic safety laws; operates school vehicles safely with respect to road and traffic conditions.
  3. Follows all pupil transportation standards as established by the Ohio Department of Education and Springboro Community Schools.
  4. Sweeps van floor daily, cleans glass as needed and keeps van exterior clean, weather permitting.
  5. Checks van and reports student damage after each group is unloaded.
  6. Maintains on the van an up-to-date list of students assigned to van, and reports any changes in student riders or stops to the transportation supervisor.
  7. Follows the route map and route stops as defined for each route.
  8. Enforces all school van regulations for the safest possible transportation of students.
  9. Maintains appropriate student discipline providing for safe and orderly transportation; assigns seats.
  10. Reports on the provided forms, any excessive student discipline problems.
  11. Supervises students as they board and depart from the van at all times.
  12. Reports immediately to the mechanic or supervisor, any mechanical problems that may be observed in the motor, chassis or body.
  13. Completes and submits a pre-trip inspection form before beginning the route each day.
  14. Reports to the Transportation Supervisor any road conditions and construction that necessitate route changes.
  15. Reports immediately to the Transportation Supervisor any traffic violations that endanger the van riders, including failure to stop for loading and unloading students.
  16. Performs extra trip assignments as assigned and accepted under the collective bargaining agreement.
  17. Cooperates with teachers and advisors, and remains at the site during extra trip assignments.
  18. Schedules and supervises emergency evacuation drills.
  19. Maintains valid Commercial Driver's License of the appropriate class with Van Driver endorsement.
  20. Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.
Qualifications
  1. Be at least twenty-one (21) years of age with a minimum of two (2) years driving experience.
  2. Valid Van Driver Certification (or willing to acquire certification upon hire)
  3. Maintain a semi-annual driving record check with no more than six (6) points within the last twenty-four (24) months
  4. No convictions for driving while under the influence of alcohol and/or a controlled substance during the last six (6) years (i.e., a violation of R.C. 4511.19)
  5. Must pass annual physical examination.
  6. Must pass criminal background check.
  7. Must be able to lift 30 + pounds.
  8. Provide proof of financial responsibility or that s/he is insured by the Board to operate a school van and/or bus.
Conditions of Employment
  1. Effective Date: 2026/2027 School Year
  2. Terms of Employment: One-year probationary period.
  3. Hours of Work: Depends on route
Salary and Benefits

According to the current negotiated agreement. $18.55/hour
