Job summary

The University of South Carolina is seeking a VA/TA Benefits Coordinator to process veteran benefits and DoD Tuition Assistance for student veterans at the Columbia campus. This role requires coordinating with Enrollment Manager, Banner, and university policies, while delivering excellent customer service to support student degree progress.

Qualifications

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in a job related field and 1+ years of job related experience, which may be substituted by equivalent certification, training, education, and/or experience.
  • Military experience; experience in working with Student Veterans in a higher education setting.

Responsibilities

  • Processes veterans benefits in Enrollment Manager, Academic Institution Portal, and the Banner student information system in accordance with VA/DoD standards and university policy.
  • Provides benefits processing training to new employees and supports veteran orientations during new student orientation events.
  • Conducts internal quality checks to ensure accuracy of veteran benefit processing and assists with audits.
  • Helps streamline benefits processing and improves customer service across enrollment stages.

Position Description Advertised Job Summary The VA/TA Benefits Coordinator serves as a School Certifying Official and coordinates the processing of veterans benefits and DoD Tuition Assistance for student veterans in the USC Columbia campus. The person in the position will strive to process benefits in a timely, compliant, and accurate manner and provide excellent customer service with the goal of both improving the veteran student experience and supporting student’s time to degree goals. This position reports to the Veteran Benefits Director.

Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in a job related field and 1 or more years of job related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job related certification, training, education, and/or experience.

Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials Preferred Qualifications

  • Military experience; experience in working with Student Veterans in a higher education setting.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Basic office computer skills, and exceptional oral and written communication abilities.

Job Duty Benefits Processing and Customer Service

Processes veterans benefits in Enrollment Manager, Academic Instiution Portal, and the Banner student information system in accordance with all VA regulatory standards, DoD regulations, and university policy and completed in a timely, professional manner. Provides benefits processing training to new employees and works with the Veteran Benefits Director in maintaining up-to-date employee training materials. Provides email, phone and in-office customer service support and assists with benefits orientations during new student orientation events.

Assists the Veteran Benefits Manager in conducting internal quality checks to ensure the accuracy of the processing of veteran’s benefits. Assist with the preparation of files and cases during quality checks and internal/external audits.
