Job summary

The Veterans Administration School Certifying Official (SCO) at the Technical College of the Lowcountry serves as the department's VA education benefits administrator, certifying Chapter 31 and Chapter 33 students and managing Tuition Assistance (TA) and MyCAA processing.

It involves maintaining accurate records, reporting, advising students on benefits, and supporting compliance under the Director of Military & Veterans Programs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Education or related area.
• One year of experience in student services, preferably in student advising in a community college setting.
• Experience with VA education benefit programs is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Serves as the primary departmental specialist for Chapter 31 Veteran Readiness and Employment and Chapter 33 Post-9/11 GI Bill education benefits; manages certifications, amendments, adjustments, terminations, enrollment changes, required authorizations/documentation, student follow-up, and VA reporting for assigned students.
• Manages day-to-day processing and student support for military Tuition Assistance and MyCAA; reviews documentation, coordinates enrollment and account processes, maintains records, and assists students with questions.
• Provides technical advising to students regarding Chapter 31, Chapter 33, TA, and MyCAA requirements; coordinates with external and College partners.
• Maintains accurate, confidential records for assigned VA students and programs; monitors certification activity and prepares reports.
• Coordinates cross-training with the part-time SCO to ensure continuity and provides backup support as needed.
