Job summary

Exponent is seeking a Scientist for our User Sciences Practice to be based in Philadelphia, PA. You will conduct UX and usability research across consumer electronics, medical devices, wearables, and AI applications to uncover usability challenges and inform safe, intuitive product design.

You will collaborate with scientists and engineers to deliver rigorous, actionable insights and manage studies from design through data collection, analysis, and reporting for clients.

Qualifications

• PhD in Developmental, Experimental, or Cognitive Psychology, Neuroscience, Vision Science, Data Sciences, Biomechanics, or related field.
• Willingness to relocate to the Philadelphia area.
• Willingness to travel for research sessions, client meetings or on-site evaluations.
• Broad knowledge of scientific literature and ability to adapt expertise to novel problems.
• Experience leading multiple studies from design to reporting.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and collaboration skills.
• Detail-oriented, proactive, and able to work under deadline pressure.
• Proficiency in analytical, statistical, and programming tools (Excel, MATLAB, Python, R, SPSS).
• Presently legally authorized to work in the United States; no sponsorship required.

Responsibilities

• Review literature, technical data, and standards to ground research and inform study design.
• Design and execute primary user research studies including usability tests, surveys, interviews, and observational research.
• Perform quantitative and qualitative data analysis of behavioral and performance metrics.
• Provide project management across multiple projects, budgets, and deadlines.
• Prepare written reports and clearly communicate findings to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Develop client contacts and support proposals across areas.
