Job summary

American Electric Power (AEP) seeks a User Experience Design Intern to join the Information Technology UX team. You will help create effective digital experiences for customers, employees, and partners, supporting agents with clearer tools and workflows.

You will work with designers, researchers, product managers, and developers across the UX lifecycle, gaining hands-on experience in research, journey mapping, prototyping, and usability testing for web and mobile self-service, tools, and AI

Qualifications

Pursuing UX-related degree or equivalent learning path.
Foundational understanding of user-centered design and research.
Interest in AI-enabled user experiences and accessibility.
Strong analytical and communication skills.
Ability to work independently and in teams.

Responsibilities

Support discovery and research with stakeholders to identify user goals and pain points.
Help plan interviews, workshops, and design thinking sessions.
Synthesize research into insights and recommendations.
Create journey maps, personas, and blueprints.
Prototype sketches and wireframes to explore ideas.
Evaluate AI-enabled user experiences focusing on trust and clarity.
Assist usability testing and document findings.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams balancing user needs and feasibility.
Communicate research findings through stories and prototypes.
