Job summary

American Electric Power (AEP) is seeking a User Experience Design Intern to collaborate with the UX team within the Information Technology organization. You will contribute to discovery, research, journey mapping, wireframing, prototyping, and usability testing to shape effective customer and employee experiences.

You will work with product, technology, analytics, operations, and business partners to balance user needs with business goals while learning practical skills in research methods,

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a degree in User Experience, Human-Computer Interaction, or related field.
• Foundational understanding of user-centered design, design research, interaction design, or product development practices.
• Curiosity about AI and emerging technology, with an interest in designing inclusive and trustworthy experiences.
• Strong analytical, communication, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and in teams, manage multiple tasks, and incorporate feedback.

Responsibilities

• Support discovery and research with customers, employees, agents, stakeholders, and subject matter experts.
• Plan and facilitate interviews, workshops, design thinking activities, and co-creation sessions.
• Translate research into themes, insights, and actionable recommendations.
• Create journey maps, personas, empathy maps, and information architecture artifacts.
• Sketch, wireframe, and prototype to explore ideas and communicate design decisions.
• Contribute to AI-enabled user experiences and usability testing activities.
