Job summary

City and County of Denver is hiring a Utility Worker I for Solid Waste Management. The role involves lifting heavy containers, operating light maintenance equipment, and supporting skilled trades on a range of projects across multiple campuses.

The position requires physical labor in all weather, teamwork, and adherence to safety standards. On-site work schedule during training transitions to a four-day, 10-hour shift pattern with potential holiday coverage.

Qualifications

• Experience with waste collection or related labor tasks is a plus.
• Ability to work in varied weather conditions and environments (dust, fumes, etc.).
• Knowledge of safety protocols and ability to follow instructions.

Responsibilities

• Lifts and empties heavy waste containers into disposal trucks and washes trucks as needed.
• Performs general labor on construction, maintenance, and repair projects.
• Assists skilled trades by doing minor repairs to buildings and facilities.
• Operates light equipment and performs pre-trip inspections on equipment.
• Places barricades and traffic control devices around work areas.
• Performs exterior maintenance such as pruning, raking, and litter pickup.
• Seasonal duties including salting, sanding, and snow removal as needed.
