Job description

Salary/Pay Rate: $57,510 - $67,500 annually, dependent on qualifications, plus a $2,000 take-home hiring bonus.

Position Overview

The purpose of this position is to perform semi-skilled, manual labor in various construction, repair, and maintenance tasks. Responsibilities include assisting with the maintenance and repair of the town’s water and sewer infrastructure, including water services, valves, fire hydrants, water mains, sewer services, manholes, and sewer mains. The role supports other town divisions as required, including emergency services and inclement weather cleanup. Employees must be available for a 24/7 response to division emergencies.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Conduct water and sewer repairs and maintenance, including assisting with CCTV inspections of sewer lines, cleaning sewer mains with high-pressure jetters, checking for leaks, installing and testing water meters, repairing water valves and fire hydrants, and maintaining town water tanks.
2. Maintain access to trunk lines and meter stations, and repair and monitor manholes.
3. Operate and repair various applicable equipment.
4. Check service flapper valves, perform air quality checks in confined spaces per permit requirements, conduct smoke testing, and assist with confined space testing.
5. Assist with marking Miss Utility tickets.
6. Support town special events setup and breakdown as needed.
7. Perform snow and ice removal as required.
8. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.
• At least one year of experience or training related to sewer or water system maintenance is strongly preferred.
• Certifications or the ability to obtain within six months: Flagger, Trench Safety, Confined Space Entry, and Forklift.
• Valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License with air brakes, or the ability to obtain within nine months.
