Job summary

Chesapeake Public Utilities is seeking an experienced Utility Electronics Technician II to maintain electronic, instrumentation, and control systems at sanitary sewer pump stations. You will keep essential infrastructure operating around the clock and support critical assets with hands-on troubleshooting and preventive maintenance.

You will install, calibrate, diagnose PLCs and VFDs, telemetry, level and pressure instrumentation, and related equipment, traveling to pump stations across

Qualifications

  • Requires an associate degree in electronics or a closely related field and a minimum of two years of full‑time experience.
  • Requires a valid driver’s license and a driving record compliant with City Driving Standards.
  • Willingness to work hours in excess of scheduled hours for emergencies or department needs.

Responsibilities

  • Install, inspect, calibrate, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain electronic, instrumentation, and control systems at sanitary sewer pump stations.
  • Diagnose and maintain PLCs, VFDs, telemetry, instrumentation, motor controls, generator controls, and related equipment.
  • Troubleshoot system failures, identify solutions, and recommend improvements to reliability and performance.
  • Design, modify, fabricate, and install instrumentation and control systems from drawings, schematics, and PLC ladder logic.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, testing, and calibration to prevent disruptions to pump station operations.
  • Travel to Chesapeake pump stations for scheduled and emergency work.
  • Provide technical guidance and ensure equipment and work meet applicable codes and standards.
