Garland is seeking a Collections Specialist I to increase utility bad debt collection and support Customer Service, Walk-In Center, Field Operations and Call-Center Divisions. The role includes reviewing accounts, directing CSRs, and maintaining reports.

Pay range is $17.90 - $22.24 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience. Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or GED and 2 years related experience; preferred includes additional study and 2–4 years in utility

Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED required.
2 years related experience or equivalent.
Preferred: High School Diploma plus six months advanced study; 2–4 years in utility collections or related field.

Responsabilités

Monitor and direct CSRs in credit, collection and red flag rules.
Review account records in accordance with rules and regulations.
Resolve escalated issues related to write-offs, bankruptcies, bad checks, and uncollected funds.
Monitor aging reports and take appropriate collection actions.
Prepare and maintain weekly reports on write-offs and disconnects for non-pay.
Explain and calculate residential and commercial utility bills.
May assume division responsibilities in supervisor's absence.
Proactively contact accounts past due or finalized for resolution.
Investigate uncollectible accounts prior to third-party collections.
File liens, issue warrants, research bankruptcies, investigate fraud, and account finals.
