Job summary

City of Bloomington, Indiana is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic to keep wastewater lift stations and water booster stations operating reliably. The role involves routine and preventive maintenance, pump overhauls, electrical diagnostics, and occasional groundskeeping, performed outdoors in varying conditions.

Applicants should have a High School Diploma or equivalent and a Class B CDL with air brake endorsement (or be able to obtain within 120 days). On-call every four weeks is required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent or demonstrated experience in a similar role.
• Class B CDL with air brake endorsement or ability to obtain within 120 days.
• Ability to legally operate a motor vehicle and drive city vehicles.
• Knowledge of safety precautions and proper procedures at all times.
• Preferred knowledge of wastewater lift stations and water booster systems.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair assets at booster and lift stations to keep systems running.
• Perform major and minor pump overhauls, repairs and diagnostic tests as needed.
• Conduct preventative maintenance including oil changes, greasing, and valve checks.
• Perform wiring and electrical checks; diagnose electrical issues as they arise.
• Carry out groundskeeping tasks and seasonal outdoor work as required.
• Conduct inspections and respond to emergencies; on-call duty every four weeks.
• Support city departments and resolve issues related to water and sewage usage.
• Operate department vehicles safely and follow safety rules at all times.
