Job summary

Canopius is seeking a strategic US Head of Programs to lead a high-performing team in optimizing the US P&C portfolio written via MGA partnerships. You will drive underwriting excellence, cross-functional execution, and profitable growth across underwriting, actuarial, operations, and legal functions.

The role requires 10+ years in production underwriting, deep US market knowledge, and the ability to craft programs strategy aligned with Canopius’s product framework. Travel is expected.

Qualifications

• 10+ years production underwriting experience with delegated authority program segment.
• Strong leadership skills, with the ability to train, mentor, and oversee underwriting team.
• Understanding of US legal environment and insurance regulatory requirements.
• Sound knowledge of the US insurance market, trends, and emerging issues.
• Ability to independently prioritise tasks and meet tight deadlines.
• Familiarity with financial statements and management reporting systems.

Responsibilities

• Devise and execute a cohesive long-term strategy for the US Programs business within the Canopius USA and Global Product frameworks.
• Annually create the US Programs Business plan for CUO and Product Leadership approval.
• Implement and proactively manage underwriting activities and KPIs to meet financial targets.
• Develop underwriting parameters and guidelines for MGA partners and ensure adherence.
• Coach and develop the team’s underwriting capability and business acumen.
• Meet regularly with MGA and distribution partners to gather market intelligence.
