Job summary

Canopius US Insurance (CUSI) seeks an experienced underwriter to evaluate and underwrite Commercial Programs written on a surplus-lines basis via MGA partnerships. The role requires reviewing submissions outside authority, ensuring compliance with risk appetite and guidelines, and developing relationships with MGAs.

A strong background in commercial property/liability/auto underwriting is preferred. The role offers a hybrid work model with a competitive base salary, 401k, discretionary bonus,

Qualifications

• 3-7 years of commercial underwriting experience.
• Knowledge in Commercial Property/Liability/Auto/IM/MTC/Excess/Package Underwriting in one or more classes: Mercantile, Hospitality, Habitational, Transportation, Manufacturing, Wholesale and Cannabis; preferably a generalist.
• Individual desk underwriting / quoting experience.
• Ability to interpret written underwriting guidelines and apply to real life scenarios
• Strong communication, analytical and problem-solving skills.

The Role

Responsibilities

• Review individual submissions to MGA’s for policies that fall outside of their assigned authority levels.
• Comply with company policies and risk appetite.
• Adhere to Underwriting guidelines and contract terms such as risk limits, rates, and aggregate limits.
• Conduct monthly and annual audits.
• Further develop company relationships with assigned MGAs.

Skills and Experience

• 3-7 years of commercial underwriting experience.
• General knowledge in Commercial Property/Liability/Auto/IM/MTC/Excess/Package Underwriting in one or more of the following classes: Mercantile, Hospitality, Habitational, Transportation, Manufacturing, Wholesale and Cannabis; preferably a generalist.

Salary Range: $100,000 - $140,000
