Job summary

UPMC is seeking a Medical Assistant to join the Urology Department in Altoona, PA. The role involves rooming patients, assisting with in-office procedures, obtaining authorizations, and managing clinical phone calls.

Daytime hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with no evenings, weekends, or holidays. Applicants with prior Medical Assistant experience are preferred and will be placed on the Medical Assistant Career Ladder based on experience and education.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; CPR certification within 30 days of hire.
• Basic computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology.

Responsibilities

• Room patients and assist with in-office procedures.
• Obtain authorizations and manage clinical phone calls.
• Schedule appointments and verify insurance coverage.
• Prepare patient rooms and maintain infection control procedures.
• Assist physicians with procedures and document in the medical record.
• Perform phlebotomy, EKGs, and basic labs.
• Comply with HIPAA and health regulatory requirements.
• Under supervision, administer injectable medications and vaccines when appropriate.
