Job summary

UPMC Department of Orthopaedic Surgery in Monroeville, PA is seeking a Medical Assistant or Medical Assistant Senior to join the team. The role includes back office and front office duties with daytime hours, Monday through Friday, no evenings or weekends.

Previous MA experience is preferred, and applicants will be placed on the Medical Assistant Career Ladder based on experience and education.

Qualifications

• Previous Medical Assistant experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Send/receive patient records in HIPAA-compliant manner.
• Obtain lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, schedule appointments, verify insurance coverage and patient demographics; manage charts.
• Prepare patient rooms and equipment; maintain infection control and inventory.
• Check schedules and organize patient flow; accompany patients to exam rooms and assist with transfers.
• Collect patient information/history, take vitals, perform screenings per provider guidelines.
• Answer calls and provide patient education as directed.
• Perform phlebotomy, EKGs, and clinic procedures; document patient information.
• Comply with OSHA, CLIA, PA Department of Health; maintain confidentiality and follow UPHC policies.
• Under physician supervision administer injectable medications and vaccines when appropriate.
