Job summary

The City of Valdosta is seeking a team-oriented Arborist/Maintenance Worker to perform skilled and semi-skilled tree maintenance across city properties, rights-of-way, parks and medians. You will operate arboriculture equipment, plant and care trees, and support safe urban forest conditions under supervision.

Responsibilities include pruning, removals, equipment operation, storm debris cleanup, traffic control in work zones, and keeping accurate records.

Qualifications

• Read, write, and perform basic math at a level commonly associated with high school completion.
• Preferred but not required arboriculture/public works experience.
• Valid Georgia driver’s license; CDL if required for vehicle/equipment.
• Ability to obtain required safety, equipment-operation, and arboriculture training.
• Ability to work at heights and around heavy equipment with proper training.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine tree pruning and structural maintenance, including crown cleaning and dead limb removal.
• Assist with tree removals and debris cleanup from city property and rights-of-way.
• Operate and assist with arboriculture equipment such as chippers, chainsaws, pole saws, and stump grinders.
• Plant, mulch, water, and maintain trees and landscaped areas on city property.
• Respond to storm-related needs and assist with emergency tree removal as needed.
