Job summary

City of Valdosta is seeking a skilled Maintenance Worker to operate a variety of trucks, trailers, bush hogs, and other light equipment for city streets and stormwater systems.

You will perform pre- and post-trip inspections, assist with traffic control, patch asphalt, and support drainage maintenance while following safety policies and local geography knowledge. Apprenticeship or similar experience is considered advantageous.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of techniques, equipment, and supplies used in street and drainage system maintenance.
• Knowledge of city and departmental safety policies and procedures.
• Knowledge of the geography of the city, including street names and locations.
• Ability to read, write and perform basic mathematical calculations.

Responsibilities

• Operate a truck and trailer to transport equipment and materials to and from work sites.
• Operate a bush hog and other mowing equipment.
• Operate a tractor to apply herbicides to drainage ditches.
• Operate a variety of equipment used in the repair and maintenance of streets.
• Patch asphalt and fill potholes.
• Maintain radio contact with dispatchers to send and receive information.
• Perform pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections.
• Assist in traffic control at work sites.
