University of Arkansas at Fort Smith is seeking Upward Bound Tutors to conduct group tutoring for high school participants across core subjects. This is a temporary, fixed-term role reporting to the Upward Bound Academic Specialist in the UB Shared Programs department.
Minimum qualifications include course work in the subject area with a 3.0 GPA, sophomore or higher standing, and strong communication skills.

Summary of Job Duties: Upward Bound Tutors will conduct grouptutoring sessions to high school participants of the Upward BoundPrograms in core academic subjects. Various subject areas will beneeded to meet the needs to the participants in the program. Theposition reports to the Upward Bound Academic Specialist.
Required Education and/or Work Experience: Minimumqualifications include completed course work in the subject areawith 3.0 or higher average grade point; sophomore or higherstanding at a post-secondary institution; and well-developedcommunication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Education and/or Work Experience: Professionalhigh school teaching and/or tutoring experience preferred.
Responsible for maintaining a positive work atmosphere by actingand communicating in a manner to foster teamwork and by providingleadership to subordinates. Requires consistent on-timeattendance.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
To perform the job successfully, the following competencies arerequired for the essential functions of this position:
Working Relationships: Tutors will work closely with UpwardBound staff and student participants.
List Employees Supervised: None
Special Job Dimensions: Tutors may work up to 12 hours perweek. Tutoring takes place Monday – Thursday between 4:00 pm and7:00 pm and occasionally on Saturdays. Tutors will be scheduledbased upon demand for subject, time availability and studentneeds.
Background Check Requirements. Criminal background check;Arkansas Mandated Reporters training; and MVR (motor vehicleregistry) required for this position.
