Job Description

The Upward Bound Academic Coach will be responsible for providingacademic tutoring to the Upward Bound participants during theafter-school tutoring time.

Essential Functions

• Tutor CSU Upward Bound participants
• Develop appropriate lesson plans to assist and motivateparticipants in gaining the necessary tools to comprehend thesubject matters.
• Be responsible for using a wide variety of motivationaltechniques and submit records and documentation as required by theFederal Government.
• Maintain a daily attendance list. Other duties asassigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Ability to tutor in multiple subjects
• Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one andsmall group situations. Willingness to work a flexible schedule,including evenings and weekends
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students, schoolcounselors, parents/guardians. Demonstrated ability to understandand work with low-income and first-generation clients.
• Knowledge of issues affecting the academic potential of lowincome, at-risk, first-generation college-bound youth (bilingualpreferred).
• Ability to conduct academic, educational, and socialassessments on program participants as required.
• Possess strong written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to administer standardized instruments for collegeplacement of participants.
• Working knowledge of personal and instructional computingapplications required.
