Job summary

New Jersey Institute of Technology in Newark is seeking an Upward Bound Counselor to provide academic, career, and college admissions counseling within the TRIO Programs. The role includes Saturday sessions, afterschool hours, and a six-week summer program with residential weeks, plus occasional overnight supervision and the organization of workshops and mentoring activities.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in counseling or related field.
Two or more years of counseling, academic advising, or teaching experience.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Experience in testing and training activities.

Responsibilities

Screen middle and high school students to determine eligibility.
Collect, analyze, and maintain student data (report cards, test scores, plans).
Supervise group and individual counseling and personal development activities.
Organize and conduct career workshops, seminars, and other educational activities.
Conduct entrance and exit interviews of program participants.
Assist with program planning, evaluation, and financial aid/admissions review.
