Job summary

Plantible Foods is seeking an Upstream Project Engineer to own the engineering and field execution of systems that grow, harvest, and deliver Lemna biomass to downstream processing. You will bridge agricultural and process design with external partners across greenhouse, water, and utilities, ensuring safe, repeatable, and scalable solutions.

The role emphasizes on-site leadership during construction, commissioning, and startup, with collaboration across Operations, Maintenance, and Facilities

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical discipline.
• Typically 5–10+ years supporting industrial, agricultural, or capital projects through design and field execution.
• Experience with commercial greenhouse construction, controlled-environment agriculture, irrigation or water systems, agricultural processing, or comparable large-scale repetitive construction.
• Experience coordinating civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, controls, equipment vendors, contractors, and internal technical teams.
• Willingness to spend significant time onsite during construction, commissioning, and startup.

Responsibilities

• Connect the Engineering: translate requirements into scopes for engineers and vendors; coordinate disciplines (process, mechanical, piping, civil, structural, electrical, controls, utilities, facility infra).
• Develop the Facility: support FEL/FEED, basis of design, equipment lists, layouts, specs; lead design reviews; ensure safety and operability.
• Buy the Equipment: develop scopes and bid packages; manage RFQs and vendor alignment; track major equipment through fabrication and startup.
• Help Build It: serve as engineering on‑site contact; manage RFIs, submittals, field changes; oversee progress and resolve conflicts.
• Make It Work: plan commissioning/startup; coordinate vendor startup activities; ensure documentation, testing, safety, and reliability.
• Upstream Systems You Will Own: greenhouse structures, cultivation systems, water management, biomass handling, civil prep, utilities, interfaces with downstream processing.
