Job summary

Plantible Foods seeks an experienced Downstream Project Engineer to own the engineering and field execution of biomass processing systems, coordinating with process experts and external partners to design, procure, build, commission, and operate hygienic downstream facilities.

You will oversee biomass reception, extraction, separation, filtration, purification, drying, and packaging interfaces, ensuring safety, quality, and reliability across the project lifecycle.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Process, Bioengineering, Food Engineering, or related discipline.
• Typically 5–10+ years on industrial capital projects in hygienic process environments.
• Direct experience with downstream unit operations and their interfaces.
• Experience delivering process equipment from specification to startup.
• Strong understanding of sanitary processes, CIP, and process utilities.
• Ability to read and challenge PFDs, P&IDs, equipment specs and vendor submittals.
• Highly organized with multiple design packages and deadlines.
• Willingness to spend significant time onsite during construction, commissioning, and startup.

Responsibilities

• Translate requirements into clear scopes and deliverables for external engineers and vendors.
• Coordinate disciplines: process, mechanical, piping, civil, structural, electrical, controls, and facility infra.
• Maintain deliverables, decisions, dependencies, risks, and schedule progress.
• Lead design reviews with Plantible SMEs, Operations, and external engineers.
• Challenge designs for safety, constructability, operability, hygienic design, and cost.
• Translate lessons from Ranchito into repeatable engineering standards.
