At FWCD, our teachers combine a love of math with a passion for making a difference in the lives of our upper school students. Pedagogically, the department promotes student engagement, critical thinking and skill development. Most students enter upper school having earned Algebra I credit in middle school. Ninth graders take Geometry. In Grade 10, students select from various tracked Algebra II options (two-year regular, accelerated and honors). Juniors and seniors advance among several courses: Precalculus, Honors Analysis, Statistics/Calculus, Calculus AB, Calculus BC, AP Statistics and Multivariable Calculus. The Department works together to maintain the highest standards of professionalism and excellence in our classroom activities and our assessments.

  1. Teach a total of five sections of courses which could include Algebra I/II, Geometry, Precalculus, Analysis; schedules, duties and assignments vary year-to-year.
  2. Serve as an advisor/mentor to about twelve upper school students; sponsor one to two extra-curricular duties.
  3. Clearly communicate classroom expectations, grade student work punctually, fairly and accurately.
  4. Document and communicate students’ progress and participation to student’s family.
  5. Commit to student success by offering extra help opportunities.
  6. Ability to demonstrate a wide range of presentation techniques in order to adapt activities for different learning styles and abilities.
  7. Understand baseline skills at the next level of our scope and sequence.
  8. Innovative use of technology as an instructional tool and for classroom presentation.
  9. Demonstrate excellent classroom management and organizational skills.

The ideal candidate will also:

  1. Have an obvious passion for the subject matter and for teaching.
  2. Be a team player; work well with others in the division and the K-12 mathematics department.
  3. Represent the School in a favorable manner.

Qualifications:

  2. At least 3-5 years of classroom teaching experience is preferred.
  3. Previous work experience in grades 9-12 in a college preparatory independent school environment is preferred.
  4. Experience with student-centered teaching and alternative assessment.
