Upper School Mathematics Teacher

Fort Worth Country Day is seeking an enthusiastic professional who preferably has experience in both independent school and upper school education. Reporting to the Head of Upper School, this highly qualified, experienced and dynamic teacher will serve as an Upper School Math teacher beginning with the 2025-2026 school year.

About the Math Department

At FWCD, our teachers combine a love of math with a passion for making a difference in the lives of our upper school students. Pedagogically, the department promotes student engagement, critical thinking, and skill development. Our preference is for faculty who are capable of teaching across the curriculum and grade levels from Algebra I through Calculus. FWCD expects its faculty to be fully involved in the extracurricular life of our students. Non-teaching duties will include advising, chaperoning trips, leading extracurricular clubs and/or coaching.

The Department provides a tracked program and an intellectual environment in which all students can explore interests and find an appropriate challenge. Students must complete four years in math. Most students enter upper school having earned Algebra I credit in middle school. Ninth graders take Geometry. In Grade 10, students select from various tracked Algebra II options (two-year regular, accelerated, and honors). Juniors and seniors advance among several courses: Precalculus, Honors Analysis, Statistics/Calculus, Calculus AB, Calculus BC, AP Statistics, and Multivariable Calculus. The Department works together to maintain the highest standards of professionalism and excellence in our classroom activities and our assessments.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Teach a total of five sections of courses which could include Algebra I/II, Geometry, Precalculus, Analysis; schedules, duties and assignments vary year-to-year
  • Serve as an advisor/mentor to about twelve upper school students; sponsor one to two extra-curricular duties
  • Clearly communicate classroom expectations, grade student work punctually, fairly, and accurately
  • Document and communicate students’ progress and participation to students’ families
  • Commit to student success by offering extra help opportunities
  • Ability to demonstrate a wide range of presentation techniques in order to adapt activities for different learning styles and abilities
  • Understand baseline skills at the next level of our scope and sequence
  • Innovative use of technology as an instructional tool and for classroom presentation
  • Demonstrate excellent classroom management and organizational skills

The ideal candidate will also:

  • Have an obvious passion for the subject matter and for teaching
  • Be a team player; work well with others in the division and the K-12 mathematics department
  • Represent the School in a favorable manner
  • Have excellent communication skills

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of an undergraduate degree in a related field
  • At least 3-5 years of classroom teaching experience is preferred
  • Previous work experience in grades 9-12 in a college preparatory independent school environment is preferred
  • Experience with student-centered teaching and alternative assessment
