Job summary

McLean School (mcleanschool.org), a K-12 co-educational independent school in Potomac, Maryland, seeks an Administrative Assistant for the Upper School Division for the 2026-2027 school year. This position helps organize and manage the division's administrative functions, including assisting and responding to inquiries from faculty, staff, parents, students, vendors, and guests with the highest degree of professionalism and courtesy.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Among the key responsibilities are the following:

  • Handles communications with prudence and is careful to maintain the confidentiality of records and information.
  • Maintains files and data entry with current information and disseminates information to the appropriate faculty and staff. Produces documents, spreadsheets, and reports from databases and sends them to appropriate parties as needed.
  • Handles assigned projects with little supervision and can act as a coordinator to all parties involved. This includes projects and events within the Division and occasionally those of the School as a whole.
  • Assists students and parents whenever needed, forwards all messages, and communicates to the appropriate person or office.
  • Covers the phone at the Front Desk Reception, as needed and assigned. Assists with other Divisions and Offices as the need arises. Is willing to be considered part of a team and accept the responsibilities assigned.
  • On behalf of the Division Head and Assistant Division Head, coordinates division-wide projects.
  • Supports the College Counseling and Learning Services teams in coordinating logistics for testing accommodations.
Education & Experience

The ideal candidate will be able to communicate effectively with others and multitask during busy periods. This person must be organized, able to work independently, and flexible.

Candidate Requirements
  • A love of adolescents and an educational environment.
  • A Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
  • Previous experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position in a fast-paced environment;
  • A welcoming personality, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to work with all constituency groups.
  • Proficiency in Apple products, Google Suite software, and the ability to quickly adapt to and master new software programs;
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills;

Salary Range: $55,000 - $75,000
