Job summary

AeroVironment, Inc. in Petaluma, CA seeks an Engineering Development Technician III to work on advanced unmanned systems for defense and commercial applications, contributing to development, build, integration and maintenance of the hardware.

Candidates bring 5+ years in machining, composites, rapid prototyping and electronics, plus proficiency with MS Office, and a valid driver’s license; travel to test sites may be required, and familiarity with aircraft or RC systems is a plus.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED equivalent or certificate from technical school.
• 5+ years of technical experience in machining, composites, rapid prototyping and electronics.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and general computer skills.
• Familiarity with aircraft and/or Remote Control (R/C) experience.
• Good understanding of using machine shop tools and proficiency with these systems.
• Experience with building fixtures, tools and parts or electrical devices.
• Build/assembly documentation development.
• Depth in at least one area: Fabrication, Composites, Mechanics, Electronics.
• Willingness to travel locally/domestically to test site locations.
• Valid Driver's license and clean driving record.
• Willing to work long hours, weekends, holidays, field tests.

Responsibilities

• Conduct mechanical, electrical, and composite fabrication support, troubleshooting, repair, and testing of integrated systems.
• Operate and maintain shop equipment and tools.
• Meet scheduled timelines and deadlines to have hardware ready for milestones.
• Attend project meetings to discuss schedule, hardware status, and other critical information.
• Document important processes and build techniques for readiness and handoff.
• Build low volume prototype assemblies.
• Ensure lab and machine shop areas and equipment are safe, clean, and organized.
• Other duties as assigned.
