Job summary

AeroVironment in Simi Valley, CA is seeking an Engineering Development Technician II to assist with the assembly, integration, and testing of unmanned aircraft systems. This hands-on role emphasizes build, basic integration, and lab support under guidance from senior engineers.

The position requires 5+ years in UAS manufacturing, 2+ years in team leadership, and strong problem-solving skills, with some travel to deployment sites. ITAR compliance and safety training are part of the role.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Minimum 5+ years in manufacture, assembly and flight test of UAS aircraft systems.
• Minimum 2+ years' experience leading and supervising product build teams.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and basic computing.
• Ability to read/interpret written, oral, diagram or schedule instructions.
• Familiarity with aerospace/UAV systems and basic electrical/mechanical knowledge.
• Willingness to travel and deploy for two-week increments.

Responsibilities

• Assemble, integrate, and rework unmanned systems following procedures.
• Operate shop tools and equipment safely.
• Support prototype hardware builds and basic avionics/payload installation.
• Prepare parts, inventory, and build documentation.
• Elevate complex issues to senior staff.
• Follow engineering instructions and provide feedback for clarity.
• Create simple fixtures and jigs as directed.
• Maintain clean, safe lab and shop areas.
• Assist with test setups, instrumentation, and data collection.
